Information Collection, Use, and Sharing

Information collected online can generally be categorized as anonymous or personally identifiable.  Anonymous information is information that cannot be connected to the identity of a specific individual.  Personally identifiable information and data (“personal information” or “personal data”) is information that specifically identifies a particular user, such as name, address, or phone number.  An example of anonymous information is the fact that, while this website may record the number of visits to a particular page that occur in a given period of time, it does not necessarily tell us the names or other identifying information of every visitor.

We are the sole owners of the information collected on this site. We will not sell or rent this information to anyone.

When you contact us, participate in chats with us, comment, or respond to surveys, or if you email us, you are voluntarily releasing personal information to us.  You may decide not to volunteer personal information, but this may limit the functionality of this website.  We automatically collect personal information when you interact with this website.  Personal data may also be generated from technical processes such as contact forms, comments, cookies, analytics, and third party embeds. This is described further below.

We will use your personal information to respond to you, regarding the reason you contacted us. We will not share your personal information with any third party outside of our organization, other than as necessary to fulfill your request, e.g. to ship an order, and as described further in this privacy policy. We may anonymize stories, comments, etc. that are submitted by visitors and use them for any purpose.

When you visit our website, we collect certain technical and routing information about your computer to measure the use of this website and to improve its content and performance.  To the extent that we share such information with third parties, it is not traceable to any particular user, and will not be used to contact you.

Unless you ask us not to, we may contact you via email in the future to tell you about new products or services, or changes to this privacy policy. If you wish to stop receiving emails from us, please send an email to runninginsilence@gmail.com with ‘UNSUBSCRIBE’ in the subject line of your message, or click “Unsubscribe” at the bottom of the email newsletter you may be receiving.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Data Retention

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

We take precautions to protect your information. When you submit sensitive information via the website, your information is protected both online and offline.

Wherever we collect sensitive information (such as credit card data), that information is encrypted and transmitted to us in a secure way. You can verify this by looking for a lock icon in the address bar and looking for “https” at the beginning of the address of the Web page.

While we use encryption to protect sensitive information transmitted online, we also protect your information offline. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, billing or customer service) are granted access to personal information. The computers/servers in which we store personal information are kept in a secure environment.

However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.  We do not guarantee that unauthorized, inadvertent disclosure will never occur or that our information may not be accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed by any breach of any of our industry standard physical, technical, or managerial safeguards.
